This is a picture of the view from a suitcase in the luggage bay of an aircraft. It really is a bit boring.

However, I fooled them again. I hid my flashlight and some reading material in the suitcase. I also included a few more goodies to make the trip more pleasant. So, as it turns out, I enjoyed the flight more than anyone expected.

This is me with Betty just before we left California. I had to find a good place to sit so I could keep everyone straight as to where we were going, or at least, should be going. I'm sure we would never have made home if I had not directed the whole operation!

I spent a lot of time going over the maps of California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico and Texas. Since we had decided to stop in Uvalde, Texas, I had to pick the best route.

I decided to ride on the dash board just to the right of the instrument panel. That wasn't a bad choice except for quick stops, and then I slipped forward. However, I needed to be close in case there were navigation problems and I had to straighten things out and get us on the right track once again.

When we got to southern Arizona, we began to see a lot of very strange cacti. They were very tall and some had arms. I guess that's what you would call them. Anyway, I looked them up on the internet and found that they were the Saguaro Cactus. They grow to 40 feet or more in height and may have many arms. Their name is pronounced "SAH-WAR-RO". They live a long time.

We saw a lot of wind generators along the way. When there is only a few of them, they are kind of pretty. However, when there are hundreds of them all over the plains and even up the mountain sides, they ruin the view. I think they are ugly.

You can see I was a bit worried here. I needed to get down from the dash, but I was worried about the jump. First, it was pretty far and second, there was the stairwell cover. The cover is air operated and moves terribly fast. If it should move when I jumped down, it would squash me. Thankfully Betty came along and offered some help.

This is Betty standing in the stairwell of the motorhome. As you can see, it is very big - and comfortable.

We stopped to eat lunch at Cracker Barrel. They have special parking places for motorhomes in the back. That's great, because most places don't and it is often impossible to find a place to park very near the restaurant. As you can see, there was one of the big Saguaro cacti in front of the Cracker Barrel.

After lunch in Junction City, Texas, Mac & Betty bought a box of fudge. They were supposed to eat only a little each day, so I had to guard it all the time we weren't driving. Except for me, they would have eaten it all on the first day! I don't know how they would have made it if I wasn't around to look after them- |

At night, after we got set up in an RV park, I usually read, when I wasn't guarding the fudge. I was reading one of Mac's western novels. I thought it was kind of simple minded, but then we didn't have any "Shakespeare". |

The motorhome had a very nice queen sized bed. Of course I had to share it with Mac & Betty. It was that or someone would have to sleep on the couch. So, we shared. I must say it is hard to sleep with all of that snoring.
Another thing I had to put up with was the driving. There was a big difference between Richard(Mac) & Danica(Miss Betty). I'll have to show you with pictures.

I finally had to move to another location to watch the highway. This was on the dash board, but on the right side of the coach in front of the passenger. I had a better place to sit and something to hold on to - I needed it too.

These pictures show a right hand curve and a left hand curve with Richard driving. I had to hold on, but not too much.

These show left & right curves when Danica was driving. I discovered that there was really not much to hold on to after all. At least I didn't fall off the dash.

Then there was stop & go. She almost got me with those operations.

Finally, back home again. Now I can watch football games again. We couldn't get the TV to work on the road, and I really missed the ball games.

And, here I am on my own pillow. The pillows in the mototrhome were ok, but mine is definitely superior. I am looking forward to a great nights sleep.
